How we keep Atmelo honest

We're a small team, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

The upside of small: we can actually check our own work.

Every so often we run a full audit of how Atmelo operates — not just "does the app work," but "is what we're telling ourselves true." The most recent one caught our own status reports being too rosy: a monitoring summary said "all clear" because it only looked at the last 24 hours, and it turned out a couple of real issues had been sitting unseen for two weeks. It also caught a small data-quality issue that had gotten slightly worse in the hours since we'd first noticed it. We fixed the reporting the same day and queued the deeper fixes, because catching your own mistakes only matters if you act on them.

We don't expect that to be exciting to read. We do think it's the kind of thing worth knowing about a company you're trusting to tell you what's actually happening in Chicago tonight.

What we cover

Live music across Chicago and the suburbs: every room we track within 60 miles of downtown. In the next 30 days that is 2,113 shows at 195 venues in 45 towns. We don't claim to have every show in Chicago. If a room you love is missing, tell us.

Where the listings come from

We read venues' own websites and calendars, and the ticketing sites venues sell through, every day. Of the shows in the next 30 days, 1,514 come from venues' own sites and calendars, 593 from ticketing sites (Ticketmaster, DICE, See Tickets), and 1 were posted on Atmelo by the venue or artist. 86 are listed by two or more independent sources. Every show page says where its listing comes from and when that source last showed it.

How fresh it is

The site is rebuilt every morning. The last rebuild was Mon, Oct 26, 6:18 AM CT. 83% of the shows in the next 30 days were seen again at their source in the 48 hours before it.

Cancellations and changes

When a source marks a show cancelled or postponed, its page says so and it comes off Tonight and This Weekend. 5 shows are in the next 30 days are marked that way right now.

What we leave out

These are live music pages, so comedy, karaoke, talks, private events and closures stay off them: 29 listings in the next 30 days.

Corrections

See something wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it. Venues and artists can claim their page for free and post their own dates.
